THE capability of the Philippines’ Bureau of Customs to identify illegal drugs has been boosted anew with the donation last week of three hand-held narcotics identification devices by the Drug Enforcement Agency of the United States.
The simple turnover ceremony last December 3, 2020, was attended by Comm. ReyLeonardo Guerrero, who acknowledged the ‘RIGAKU Raman Spectrometers’ from US DEA attaché Christopher Adduci, Ms. Kelia Cummins, Philippine Director for Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and other DEA officials.
In a brief statement, Guerrero, who was accompanied by the bureau’s deputy commissioners, said the devices would “further enhance” his agency’s capacity to immediately detect arriving illegal drugs.
Guerrero also thanked the United States government, through its Embassy, for their continued support to the BOC thru their ‘Information and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges’ partnership and increased interdiction measures against illegal drugs.
