BOC destroys P32M cigarette-making machines
THE Port of Manila of the Bureau of Customs announced the successful destruction of P32 million worth of ‘cigarette-making machines,’ their paraphernalia and tobacco products the port had confiscated as part of its campaign against smuggling.
POM district collector, Michael Angelo DC Vargas, in a report to Comm. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, said the condemnation, thru actual physical destruction, was held at a rendering facility in Carmona, Cavite, last January 14, 2021, and was witnessed by personnel from the port’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Auction and Cargo Disposal Division (ACDD), as well as representatives from other concerned port offices.
Vargas added the activity was “part of the Port’s continuing efforts to curb the entry and sale of smuggled and fake cigarettes.”
