No change in warlike foreign policy of US Imperialism

WITH the election of Pres. Joe Biden to the US presidency, everyone’s hope of a change in American foreign policy away from the isolationist, yet at the same time, combative and abrasive policy of Donald Trump, towards a more “inclusive” and consensus-based policy anchored on mutual respect and understanding, is fast becoming a disappointment.

Right after his election in November 2020, Biden had already made it known that as was the hypocritical practice of his Democratic Party, “human rights” would be among his prime considerations in dealing with other countries.

That is, living up to his party’s “legacy,” from Truman down to Carter and onwards to Clinton and Obama, Biden is also ready to ‘weaponize’ the issue of human rights in order to justify both active and underhanded interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

And if Asians expects a lessening of tension between the US and China with the election of Biden, they too are headed for disappointment with the US Navy clearly provoking China by its repeated violations of China’s territorial waters with the repeated passing of US warships and aircraft carriers at the Taiwan Strait and at the South China Sea since December 2020.

Ditto, new US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, has joined the chorus of top American officials stoking the fire of tension and reaffirming the ‘divide and rule’ policy of US Imperialism with his “reassurance” that America would defend the Philippines in case of attack at the South China Sea or West Philippine Sea.

This is the same “guarantee” that we have been getting from US Imperialism since the 1950s, the last of which, from Mike Pompeo, the defense secretary of Donald Trump.

And yet, when it comes to actual reality, Filipinos have always been a sucker for US promises and our soldiers, cannon fodders for American wars of aggression in Asia.

And did we mention here that if, indeed, America is our “friend and ally,” why did it actively conspired with British Imperialism— and still very silent– in the illegal takeover of Malaysia of Sabah?

With the world still being hammered by the COVID-19 pandemic and badly in need of medical and science-based solutions, the reaffirmation of the Biden regime of America’s interventionist and war-based foreign policy is not only grossly misplaced but also, dangerous for mankind.

If America is to regain the world’s respect and its position as the leading country in the world, it should behave responsibly and reasonably; it can no longer command respect by bullying and frightening other countries into submission thru its awesome military arsenal.

This it can do by first “fixing” its many problems at home—an economy nearing bankruptcy, a country divided along racial lines and its citizens still being devastated by pandemic.

And yes, America would be greatly applauded if it stops, finally, from weaponizing human rights and its trade relationships with other countries among its foreign policy options.
