THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) announced that more than 21 million subscriber identity modules (SIMs) have been registered as of January 16, 2023.
As of 11:59 pm of January 16, a total of 21,128,925 SIMs, representing 12.5 percent of the total 168,977,773 subscribers nationwide have been registered, according to the DICT, citing record from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
DICT spokesperson and Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo said it is working with LGUs and telcos in the implementation of SIM registration in remote areas.
“The first SIM Registration rollout in the remote area of Masantol, Pampanga has provided valuable insights and the public can expect that SIM Registration will reach the country’s far-flung areas,” said Lamentillo.
Smart Communications Inc. reported a total of 10,386,685 registration or an equivalent of 15.2 percent of its 67,995,734 subscribers followed by Globe Telecom Inc. with 8,963,101 which is 10.2 percent of its 87,873,936 subscribers while DITO Telecommunity Corp said 1,779,139 SIMs have been registered, equivalent to 13.57 percent of its 13,108,103 subscribers, citing data from the NTC.
The DICT has repeatedly reminded the public to be vigilant as they complete the registration process and further stressed that SIM registration is free of charge.
