His Majesty Sultan Fuad Abdulla Kiram, the 35th Sultan of the Royal Hashemite Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo (Sabah), assisted by Crown Prince Al-Mezzheer Abrigo Kiram, conferred the title of ‘Datuk Seri’ to well-respected Chinese businessman, Lin Xiaoqing, also known as ‘Eric Lim’ in the Fil-Chinese business community. The title is the highest state title conferred by a ruler to the most deserving individual who have contributed greatly to the nation or state.
Lim was recognized by the Sultanate for his invaluable contributions in increasing the prestige of the Sultanate before the Chinese community and in opening doors for various business and economic opportunities for those in Mindanao who look up to the Sultanate for leadership and guidance.
The conferment ceremony was held last February 5, 2024, at the Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
A French court in 2022 affirmed the ownership of the Sultanate over North Borneo and ordered the Malaysian government to pay them $14.9 billion in compensation (see Pinoy Exposé, July 18, 2022).
