PRESIDENTIAL Adviser for Poverty Alleviation (PAPA) Secretary Larry Gardon, led the switching on of a new solar power system for the Bataan Peninsula State University on October 28, installed art “zero cost” to the government and the BPSU by his former client, PHILKO 18 Group of Companies, in partnership with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC).

In a statement, Gadon said the project would also soon cover all the school’s campuses in Balanga, Abucay, Dinalupihan, Orani and Bagac.

He said solar panels would be installed on the rooftops of school buildings that can generate up to 670 kilowatts.

“Education is a key factor in poverty alleviation as it prepares individuals for gainful employment.

“This is in line with the program of the Marcos administration on the development of our human resources aimed at reducing poverty incidence rate in the country,” Gadon explained.

He noted that the university’s savings from its electricity bills can now be used “to other funding needs of the school thereby leading to the pursuit of higher quality education.”

Philko, with its Korean partner, is a client of Gadon since 2012. The BPSU solar system is the first alternative energy project of the company.

Gadon stressed he divested his shares in the company after he was appointed by President Marcos Jr. to his position in June 2023.

Phase 2 of the project not only calls for the completion of solar panel installations at the rooftop of BPSU campuses but also, the creation of a 4-megawatt ‘solar farm’ covering 27 hectares in its campus in Abugay.

Joining Gadon during the switching ceremony are BPSU President Ruby Santos-Matibag and PHILKO 18 Group of Companies Inc. President Michelle Sia and other university, PNOC, and company officials.
