XIP finds P10.22 million shabu from US shipment

MORE than 1.5 kilos of shabu worth P10.22 million were intercepted at the Port of Clark thru the effort of alert personnel of the X-Ray Inspection Project (XIP) of the Bureau of Customs.

District Collector Jarius Reyes, in his report to Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, said the shipment, which arrived from the United States, was found hidden by the XIP inside the hollow aluminum frames of a shipment declared as ‘black vinyl window made out of PVC.’

Reyes said advance profiling of the shipment’s declaration on January 19, a day before its actual arrival, already raised their suspicion.

“Scanning by the XIP (on arrival) revealed unusual images,” Reyes said.

The subsequent physical inspection uncovered four aluminum tubes where the illegal drugs were discreetly hidden.

To ensure transparency, Reyes said the inspection was jointly conducted by representatives from the regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Aviation Security Unit, Drug Enforcement Group of the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Pampanga Office, and village officials from Dau.

The BOC, however, did not name the consignee or confirm if any arrest was made.
