THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) collected P79.225 billion in duties and taxes for September, surpassing its collection goal for the month of P76.445 billion by P2.780 billion or 3.64 percent.
The BOC also topped its revenue target for January to September, netting P660.716 billion, surpassing its goal of P644.185 billion by 2.57 percent equivalent to P16.531 billion.
Under the stewardship of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, effective customs operations, increased trade activity, and rigorous revenue collection efforts were put in place, which paved the way for the BOC’s consistent remarkable collection performance, according to the statement released by the agency’s Public Information and Assistance Division (PIAD) under Assistant Commissioner Vincent Maronilla.
The BOC also recently collaborated with the Department of Trade and industry (DTI), Strategic Trade Management Office (STMO), and ARISE Plus Philippines to promote facilitation of customs procedures and improve trade competitiveness.
Corollary to again topping its assigned collection target, the agency also conducted 730 successful anti-smuggling operations that resulted to the seizure of P35.963 billion smuggled goods as of end September.
The amount already exceeded the more than P24 billion worth of smuggled goods the BOC seized last year.
