Tulfo laments perplexing OFW problems

Sen. Raffy Tulfo, chairperson of the Committee on Migrant Workers, presides over the hybrid hearing on various overseas Filipino workers (OFW)-related concerns Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Specifically, the committee tackled the privilege speech of Sen. Pia Cayetano on the discrimination toward OFWs and the deficiencies and continued failure in education and training of Philippine seafarers.
During the hearing, Tulfo expressed disappointment that these old “perplexing” problems persist until now.
He pointed out that the problems on OFW discrimination, the death of an OFW in Saudi Arabia, and the danger of thousands of seafarers losing their jobs were interrelated because these were rooted in the issues of employment terms, conditions, and recruitment practices.
“We should not waste time addressing all OFW concerns. We should be pro-active and not just reactive and act boldly, favorably and without excuses. We need to find solutions and craft legislations for permanent and lasting outcomes,” Tulfo said.
