48 ex-NPAs in North Mindanao get govt. assistance

Forty-eight former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Misamis Oriental, Northern Mindanao are assured of getting government assistance in the form of free housing and financial and livelihood assistance.

Lt. Col. Christian C. Uy, Commanding Officer, 58th ‘Dimalupig’ Battalion, 4th Infantry ‘Diamond’ Division, Philippine Army, stressed the importance of addressing the needs of former rebels and their families through comprehensive social protection interventions.

“This coordinated effort not only enhances the quality of life for former rebels but also serves as a vital step toward healing and rebuilding communities affected by conflict.

“By providing these individuals with the necessary tools and resources, the initiative aims to foster a sense of belonging and purpose, reinforcing the importance of social cohesion in achieving lasting peace,” Lt. Col. Uy added.

The battalion facilitated the beneficiaries’ visit to the housing community constructed by the National Housing Authority (NHA), located at Midland Valley last October 28.

An orientation meeting was also held right after at a hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, capital of Misamis Oriental, attended by officials from the military, NHA, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and other relevant agencies.
