An inbound parcel from Indonesia declared as “hairclips” for delivery to a consignee in Valenzuela City, was seized by customs authorities at the Port of Clark after being found to actually contain hundreds of spiders
Acting District Collector Jairus Reyes, in a belated report to Bureau of Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, said the interception happened last October 30, while the parcel is under physical examination.
Reyes said they found 157 vials of live spiders while 21 specimens were already dead.
The spiders have been turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Reyes added.
