Joint BOC-NBI raid yields P190 million fake goods

JOINT elements of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confiscated assorted fake goods during a raid at a warehouse in Valenzuela City worth P190 million.

Alvin Enciso, head of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), said their joint operation with the NBI’s Special Action Unit (SAU), was by virtue of an approved ‘letter of authority’ (LOA) signed by Comm. Rey Leonardo Guerrero and was successfully carried out last April 22, 2022.

He said found inside the warehouse located in Mapulang Lupa, Valenzuela City, are imported kitchenware, housewares, IPR infringing goods, such as shirts and perfumes and foodstuff, among others.

He added that proper inventory of the goods shall be undertaken by customs examiners witnessed by members of the raiding team and the representative of the warehouse.

Enciso added that a ‘WSD’ (warrant of seizure and detention) is expected to be issued by the bureau for violation of the provisions of RA 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) in relation to RA 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of 1999).
