Mayhem prevented as grenade fails to explode in Manila cockpit

A BLOODY mayhem on Thursday, January 27, 2022, was prevented after a grenade thrown by two motorcycle-riding suspects at the entrance of a cockpit in Sta. Ana, Manila, failed to explode.

Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson, P/Major Philip Inez, quoting from the initial police report from Station 6, said the incident occurred past 6:00 pm when the still unidentified suspects threw the fragmentation grenade at the entrance of the ‘Manila Arena’ located along Panaderos St., Sta. Ana.

The incident, the report added, was witnessed by the cockpit’s security guard identified as Mark Joseph Salceda Parajes, 29.

The incident triggered a commotion in the area and the situation only stabilized after the arrival of the police. Members of the MPD’s Explosive and Ordinance Division (EOD) under P/Major Omar Cuyogan managed to “disrupt” the grenade at the site some two hours later.

Despite the incident, the games inside the arena that were being broadcast live were not affected.

Inez said “backtracking” and “follow-up operation” are now ongoing to establish the identities of the suspects.
