UN-WFP Donates Motor Vehicles to Bureau of Customs

THE ‘World Food Programme’ (WFP) of the United Nations decided to donate to the Bureau of Customs (BOC), 3 Landcruiser SUVs and one BMW motorcycle, it is previously using to help boost the agency’s logistical and enforcement capabilities.

At a simple ceremony last Monday, September 28, 2020, Comm. Rey Leonardo Guerrero accepted the donation from Mr. Mate Persson, WFP Philippine Representative and Deputy Country Director.

A statement from the BOC noted the vehicles, all still in good running condition, were turned over earlier by the WFP “for proper disposition.”

However, they cannot be sold locally or auctioned as they were brought into the country tax and duty-free in accordance with the rules on diplomatic importations.

In his statement, Guerrero expressed his gratitude to the UN-WFP for the donation.

The official said he is optimistic that the vehicles can greatly improve the mobility of the Enforcement and Security Service (Customs Police), which is responsible for anti-smuggling and other law enforcement activities.
