ALERT Bureau of Customs officials at the Port of Subic headed by Coll. Maritess Martin last December 7, 2021, apprehended a shipment of sugar misdeclared as ‘twist floor map’ and ‘plastic trash bags’ worth P16.7 million.
Acting on derogatory information, Martin, in a report to Comm. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, said she immediately issued a ‘pre-lodgment control order’ (PCLO) against the 14×20 containers brought in by ‘Multi Subsonic Marketing Company.’
“Physical examination was conducted with the presence of the Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Sugar Regulatory Administration resulting in the discovery of the undeclared sugar,” Martin said.
Based on BOC records, ‘Multi Subsonic’ is among the fake company names being used by a group behind the smuggling of red onions into the country.
In the smuggling incident last November 18, 2021, perpetrated by ‘EMV Consumer Goods Trading,’ P66 million worth of red onions loaded in 22×40 containers were seized by the Port of Subic.
Two days later, in Valenzuela City, Metro Manila, Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Ranier Ramiro informed Guerrero on the successful result of another anti-smuggling operation that resulted to the confiscation 500 master cases of smuggled cigarettes.
Ramiro said his men, along with elements from the Customs Police (Enforcement Security Service) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), found the smuggled cigarettes under the brands of ‘Two Moon’ and ‘Marvels’ stored inside a warehouse along Bambi St., Tañada Subdivision, Bgy. Gen. T. de Leon.
While no one was around during the visit, Ramiro said they would be questioning the registered owner of the warehouse in the name of ‘Winnie Patricio’ of Zhong Fils Marketing.
The team also placed a seal on the gates of the premises while further investigation is still ongoing, Ramiro added.
