THE Port of Cagayan de Oro under Coll. Arthur Sevilla, announced the seizure of 10,750 reams of smuggled cigarettes valued at P2.5 million. The contraband was found inside an abandoned 1X10 footer container van on board a 10-wheeler truck at a village in Cagayan de Oro last month.
In a report to Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, Sevilla said he formally issued the WSD (warrant of seizure and detention) against the shipment last November 4, some two weeks after it was found in Bgy. Puntod, last October 24.
Sevilla ordered an intensive campaign against smuggled cigarettes after receiving information from the Philippine National Police about their entry in the region.
The inventory disclosed the abandoned cargo consisted of 215 master cases of ‘Modern’ cigarettes broken down into 10,750 reams.
