THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) again breached its monthly collection target for April by P2 billion, further boosting its surplus tax collection for the first four months of the year by more than P17 billion.
Assistant Commissioner and BOC spokesman, Atty. Vincent ‘Jett’ Maronilla, quoting the report from the Financial Management Service, said that for April, the agency actually collected P51.277 billion, P2.077 billion more than its assigned target of P49.200 billion or a positive deviation of 4.2 percent.
As the BOC has been exceeding its collection target since the start of the year, Maronilla said this translates to P200.459 billion tax-take for a positive deviation of 9.4 percent, or P17.285 billion more from its assigned target of P183.174 billion from January to April.
Year-on-year, Maronilla said their actual collection is also P20.720 billion or 11.5 percent more for the same period last year.
According to the FMS data, 11 out of the bureau’s 17 collection districts surpassed their April 2021 collection target, namely
Port of Subic, Port of San Fernando, Port of Manila, Manila International Container Port, Port of Iloilo, Port of Tacloban, Port of Surigao, Port of Zamboanga, Port of Davao, Port of Aparri and, Port of Limay.
Also contributing from the BOC’s impressive collection performance are the additional revenues from the Tax Expenditure Fund (TEF) collection of P219.34 million and the P300.59 million collection from the Post Clearance Audit Group (PCAG) from January to April 2021. The PCAG is under Maronilla.
In a brief message, Comm. Rey Leonardo Guerrero commended the efforts of the men and women of the bureau who, “despite the risk to their health and safety, showed their unwavering commitment and dedication to service.”
Guerrero made the generous remark during the bureau’s latest executive committee meeting.
