Another opportunity to weaken government

IT HAS been more than a week, or since October 11, 2022, when, still under mysterious circumstances we would like to stress here, the eldest son of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla, was arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after receiving a package of marijuana sent from the United States.

And the public should not be surprised that leading the muck and mud throwers at him are the urban personalities and front organizations of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and their allies in the political opposition, with their taunts and fake indignation being amplified repeatedly by their “troll armies” in social media.

And why not? For as his record of public service would show, Remulla has always been a strong pillar of our democracy and the rule of law.

Working hand-in-hand with the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), he has become the most credible voice in exposing the true character of the so-called ‘Makabayan Bloc’ in Congress as part of the CPP’s “above ground” group and in opposing Makabayan’s propaganda in and out of Congress aimed at weakening the public’s support for the government and its programs.

Now, with Remulla as Justice Secretary, the CPP is of no illusion that they would still be able to escape and make a mockery of, the charges being brought against them by the government thru the DOJ, as what happened previously, when cases filed against the CPP are being thrown out of court.

Fully knowing that Remulla has not—and will not— “compromise” with any CPP representative or “emissary” for his own political gains, this terrorist group, therefore, has long been lusting for ways to neutralize and discredit Remulla.

For should they succeed, enemies of the government would be in a better position to propagandize against the “ills” of government, both real and imagined for their own political ends.

It should be in this context that the public should be alerted that the unceasing attack against Remulla is not about his unfitness for his present position nor his alleged “shortcoming” as a father that can result to his ineffectiveness to the demands of his office.

The bigger issue involved here is the CPP’s and the political opposition’s strategic aim of weakening public trust and support for the Marcos administration so that, at the proper time, they can regain their political influence and return to power.

And should they succeed in bringing down a man as strong and as steady as the Rock of Gibraltar like Remulla, destroying other PBBM appointees and PBBM himself, would be, as the saying goes, “a piece of cake” and a “stroll in the park.”

Here’s hoping that at this point, most Filipinos are now politically mature enough to see for themselves what the real agenda against Remulla is all about.
