THE global event that overshadowed the opening of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, last February 4, 2022, was the “summit” (of sort) between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Pres. Vladimir Putin.
First, it totally removed the illusion, probably still being entertained by some US and Western officials, that politically and diplomatically, they can still drive a “wedge” between Russia and China, allowing them to continue their aggressions against either country, “piecemeal.”
Although short of signing a formal military alliance, China and Russia made it known that they got “each other’s back” when it comes to dealing with the machinations of US Imperialism and their regional minions in Europe (EU/NATO) with regards to European borders of Russia like Ukraine, and in the Pacific (mainly Australia and Japan), over the question of Taiwan.
Second, the trade, economic and investment deals (Russia and China signed a total of 15 agreements during Putin’s visit) they signed would not only ensure a robust growth in trade: $147 billion in 2021 to over $200 billion this year.
More strategically, their “unbreakable friendship” would make sure that in the case of actual conflict, the US and the West’s use of “economic warfare” thru their control of the world’s financial system and markets would be rendered ineffective in paralyzing their respective economies.
From hereon, economic and financial sanctions can only be weaponized by the West against Third World countries they completely dominate like Afghanistan and yes, the Philippines.
The emergence of the China-Russia “strategic partnership” that we can now see as determining the future course of mankind is, of course, the expected by-product of US bullying, reckless interference in other countries’ affairs and arrogance since it became a nuclear power after the end of World War 2 and more so, when it became the sole “superpower” with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
As the most bellicose and warlike nation on earth and whose economy is now largely dependent on “war manufacturing,” America, would be the fool (‘gago’) if it believes it can wage war on two fronts—against Russia in Europe and against China in Asia.
For we firmly believe that minus the use of nuclear weapons (which all of them have), the United States cannot possibly beat either Russia or China. History has told us that.
Indeed, had it not been for the tenacity and sacrifices of the Soviet people and the Red Army, the West, the US included, could not have possibly defeated Nazi Germany.
On the other hand, China fought US Imperialism to a draw in the Korean War— despite China back then being one of the poorest countries on earth.
The only way for global tensions to subside and a new beginning for human relationship to blossom is for US Imperialism and its Western and Asian minions to realize that America’s war-profiteering days and aggressive behavior are over.
US Imperialism must give way to the new global reality that it cannot impose its will on anyone anymore without suffering the consequences. Groups are now forming to check its excesses.
Unless this happens, expect US Imperialism to bring the rest of the world to perdition.
