FOR over a year now, since October 4, 2020, when US Ambassador to the Philippines, Sung Y. Kim took on his new posting as ambassador to Indonesia, our imperial overlord, ‘Uncle Sam,’ has not bothered to assign a replacement for him.
Since Amb. Kim’s departure and as of this writing, the US Embassy, which, over the years, by the way, has steadily usurped a growing swath of our territory at the Manila Bay, has been left in the hands of a ‘chargée d’ affaires, first by Mr. John C Law until September 2021, when he was replaced by Madam Heather Variava, both in ‘ad interim’ (temporary) capacity.
Whether the situation is a reflection of US domestic politics, or inside wranglings inside the US State Department in the absence of clear policies relating to its (continuing) colonial outpost in Southeast Asia, (read: the Philippines), we do not know and we do not care.
What we would like to point out is that the presence of an ambassador in any country, especially for a superpower like the United States, is a manifestation of how the US truly values its relationship with any country—its government and its people, especially.
In this context, Filipinos should realize how much we are truly ‘valued’ by the US– never mind its officials’ regularly telling us that we are America’s ‘strategic’ and ‘most valuable ally’ this side of the Pacific.
How much do Americans ‘value’ us with no US ambassador appointed for more than one year now? Well, we are valued less, very much less than most rabid local pro-Americans would like themselves to believe.
And speaking of this crowd, why would US Imperialism need to bother elevating its respect to Filipinos by appointing an ambassador when promoting US interests here in every sphere is superbly being handled by the likes of Phil. Ambassador to the US, Jose ‘Babe’ Romualdez, our foreign affairs secretary, Teodoro ‘Teddy Boy’ Locsin and those star-addled officials at our defense establishment bannered by defense secretary, Delfin Lorenzana? And thrown in too, the many US-paid hacks in the Philippine media like Rappler, Vera Files, PCIJ, etc.
Indeed, this conspiracy of US toads and puppets has Pres. Duterte in their close embrace that he cannot do much else but agree to US wishes—continuation and expansion of the VFA, EDCA and the non-review of the MDT.
Should Pres. Duterte also agree to give the American’s its much-coveted “prize” of all—return of US military bases in the country before his term ends– would not surprise us also. It’s called “persistence” on the part of US lackeys working on Pres. Duterte since ‘Day One’ of his presidency.
That fake patriots and actual traitors in our officialdom have been working relentlessly on behalf of US Imperialism cannot be doubted and denied anymore.
For example, demonstrating his unbridled shamelessness and ‘toadism,’ Secretary Locsin was always fulsome in praising US assistance in whatever shape, amount or form despite such assistance always coming late and in droplets compared to the assistance being given to us by China, personally attended to by its ambassador, HE Huang Xilian.
Of course, Secretary Locsin is not “blind” to what is really happening.
But as a faithful American subaltern like the rest of his gangmates, it is his task to make sure that America’s core interests and fake benevolence must always come first. And to hell with Pres. Duterte’s independent foreign policy.
