P14 million drugs seized at NAIA; P46.28 million smuggled cigarettes busted in Subic
ALERT customs operatives at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) announced this Thursday, August 11, 2022, the interception and seizure of three parcels containing illegal drugs worth P14.7 million.
District collector Carmelita ‘Mimel’ Talusan, in a report to Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz, said one outbound parcel at the DHL Warehouse was found to contain some 300 grams of shabu worth P2.04 million concealed inside the parcel declared as ‘house décor’ (wall sticker).
Her initial report, however, did not mention where the parcel is to be delivered abroad.
On the other hand, two incoming parcels that came in thru the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) were found to contain the party drug, ‘Ecstasy’ worth P8.9 million and P3.8 million respectively.
The successful interception was part of the BOC-NAIA’s strengthened anti-illegal drug campaign and regular coordination with PDEA and its K9 unit.
In a separate statement, the Port of Subic said it has seized a container van filled with smuggled cigarettes from Singapore valued at P46.28 million last August 4, 2022.
District Collector Maritess Martin, in a report to Ruiz, said the shipment consisting of 1,122 master cases of ‘Marvel Filter’ cigarettes, was declared as ‘fabrics’ by the consignee, Proline Logistics Philippines, Inc., in a failed effort to avoid apprehension.
Martin noted that the consignee was not a registered locator of foreign cigarettes at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) nor was it accredited to import tobacco products.
Martin further noted that twice last month, they also apprehended the same consignee for also bringing in illicit cigarettes worth P84.97 million.
