PDEA official in drug trade, surrenders, finally
A DISMISSED Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official who was also included in the drugs list of former President Rodrigo Duterte surrendered to authorities in Eastern Visayas on Wednesday, January 25, 2023
Former PDEA Metro Manila director Erwin Ogario reportedly turned himself in before Philippine National Police (PNP) Eastern Visayas regional director Brig. Gen Rommel Marbil in Palo, Leyte.
A warrant for Ogario’s arrest was issued last January 3, 2019 by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 227 for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ogario surrendered after he reportedly received death threats. He was chief of the PDEA-NCR when he was dismissed from the service in 2017 for grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
The dismissed PDEA official was among the government officials allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade named by former President Duterte.
The PNP, however, denied media access to Ogario after his arrest.
