EX-JUSTICE SA MGA PARI: ESKANDALO SA SIMBAHAN UNAHING LINISIN

Nanawagan si dating Sandiganbayan Justice at Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairperson Harriet Demetriou sa mga pari na huwag manghimasok sa pulitika at sa halip ay magpokus sa pagreporma o paglilinis sa loob mismo ng Catholic Church na nakukulapulan ng mga eskandalo.

“Instead of your non-stop politicizing, criticizing and demeaning the System which includes the judicial power of the Philippines, you wait for the decision of the Supreme Court on some issues you rally behind together with some politicians and “prostitute” the dignity of your being ministers of God for self-seeking objectives,” ayon kay Demetriou sa kanyang Facebook post na partikular na tumutumbok kina Manila Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David at Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.

Umapela si Demetriou sa prelates na itigil ang pagdungis sa sistema sa pamamagitan ng kanilang pagiging makasarili at kaipokrituhan sabay kuwestyon sa kaparian ukol kawalan ng alam sa pamamahala at polisiya sa pamahalaan.

“Do you have the previous experience in judicial, technical and administrative fields on how to run the government of the Philippines? Do you have the competence and the prescribe qualifications on how issues/cases are remedied/resolved in our judicial system? You take the State for granted with the arrogance of your own excitement and assume that the State is not efficient in determining the proper balance and ready to point out its apparent current inadequacies,” ani Demetriou.

Iginiit na hindi naman mga politiko at sa halip ay mga ministro ng Diyos, sinabi ni Demetriou sa religious leaders na magpokus na lamang sa pagpapatakbo sa Catholic Church, sa paglilinis at rehabilitasyon ng mga pari at obispo.

“The Philippine Catholic Church has been smeared by terrible sexual scandals, corruption, and abuses of priests and Bishops as confirmed by Archbishop Oscar Cruz. Bishops and priests impregnating women and engaging in pedophilia and homosexual anomalies inconsistent with the life they have to live is abominably phenomenal,” anang retired justice.

Noong nakaraang linggo, inakusahan ni Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) sa paggamit ng impluwensiya upang i-pressure ang Supreme Court sa pagdedesisyon laban sa Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Sinasabing sa isang liham ng CBCP, sinusuportahan nito ang petisyon na kumukuwestyon sa kontrobersiyal na batas, lalo ang mabilis na pagpapasa rito ng Congress habang ang mga Pinoy ay nahaharap sa krisis dulot ng coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Si Demetriou na nagsilbing hukom ng Pasig City Regional Trial Court ang nagpataw ng parusa laban kay dating Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez at sa anim pa noong 1995 dahil sa rape-slay sa 21-anyos na University of the Philippines Los Baños student na si Mary Eileen Sarmenta at pagpatay sa 19-anyos na si Allan Gomez noong June 1993.

Siya ang kauna-unahang babaeng naging Comelec chairman matapos italaga ni dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada noong 1998.#
