‘Siege’ at US Capitol bares bankruptcy of Western-style ‘democracy’
With 4 supporters dead, over 52, arrested, Trump concedes US presidency, finally
THE January 6, 2021, assault by supporters of now defeated American President Donald Trump at the US Capitol Building, has finally shown to the world the hollowness, bankruptcy and hypocrisy of Western-style, ‘democracy.
The incident, dubbed variously by the US mainstream media as an act of ‘domestic terrorism,’ a ‘siege’ and a ‘riot,’ had claimed four lives, when the police opened fire on the demonstrators. At least 52 more Americans were also arrested.
Capitol Hill is also the seat of the US Congress, which was in session at the time to confirm the result of the US presidential election last November 4, 2020.
The violence, however, did not prevent the US Congress from finally confirming former democratic vice president Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, as winners of the hotly-contested presidential election, against incumbent Pres. Donald Trump and his vice president, Michael ‘Mike’ Pence.
Biden and Harris are to be formally sworn into office this coming January 20, 2021.
Trump had been goading his supporters to gather and protest since losing the election to Biden in November, claiming massive fraud marred the election.
His claim was immediately rejected by the US Establishment and all electoral protests on his behalf, rejected by US lawmakers, including many in Trump’s Republican Party, during the January 6 session.
However, more telling than putting the final nail in the political coffin of Trump, the incident also showed the ugliness of Western-style democracy that the US and the Europeans have been imposing on Third World countries for adoption as their own, thru threats and the use of force.
Since the end of the Second World War in 1945, the United States have been imposing its own version of ‘democracy’ in other countries, whether they want it or not, thru subversion and armed intervention.
US aggression is more manifest and intense during the ‘Cold War’ years between it and the now defunct ‘Soviet Union,’ where it interfered in the domestic affairs and elections of many countries such as Italy, Greece, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, countries in Eastern Europe, Cuba, countries in Latin America and the Philippines, among others.
Presently, the US is using its mythical version of democracy to bring down the government of China by claiming it is a “dictatorship” and not a “democracy.”
The US has also organized a coalition of Western ‘democracies’ to again dismember China’s territories by funding violence in Hongkong and Tibet and giving military protection to the Chinese island of Taiwan.
The hypocrisy of the United States in dealing with social unrests was also again highlighted when it condemned the decision of the Chinese government to arrest the leaders of fake opposition groups in Hongkong under a new security law approved by the Hongkong Legislature last year, while turning a blind eye to the January 6 violence right at its doorsteps and the ‘race riots’ regularly hitting US cities that have claimed lives and inflicted costly damage to private and public properties.
