Beijing Olympics triumphs, U.S. flops

IN THE competition being waged by U.S. against China, one of its strategies is what I would describe as “strategic pestering” – just constant and unceasing annoyance and harassment in the hope of upsetting and unbalancing its “strategic competitor” that could cause China to make a major misstep and lead to damaging its image or lead to a serious geopolitical mishap.

So, while Biden made a big show of that wonderful “handshake virtual meeting” with President Xi Jinping last November 15, 2021, calling for cooperation and, as I wrote in my article then on the event “creating amity” his left-hand was busy creating nuisances for China to damage China’s international image and impair China’s goodwill projects for the world.

The past month, Biden’s mischievous State Department officials have been pushing the Cold War mentality of projecting China’s political system as an undemocratic and authoritarian system contrary to the fulfillment of human rights and the welfare of the people by way of calling and convening and hosting a virtual international “Summit for Democracy”.

The second pestering initiative by the U.S against China is a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, announcing it would not send its diplomats and officials to the quadrennial athletic and sportsmanship event much awaited by the world each and every time; the U.S. even enjoins others to join the boycott over false charges of “human rights violations”.

Biden’s “Summit for Democracy” has been met with charges from American political experts themselves of double standard, hypocrisy, contradictions, while the Democracy Perception Index of the E.U.’s “Alliance for Democracy” survey of 50,000 respondents in 53 countries see “US influence” as the top political (44 percent) “threat to democracy” in the world, far ahead of China and Russia, countries that America persistently painted as “authoritarian.”

From ASEAN, Biden shut out seven countries including Singapore which has never missed an election since its founding 1965.

But the US bowed low and invited President Rodrigo R. Duterte and the Philippines which the U.S. has charged and sanctioned for alleged human rights violations and authoritarianism likely to get more concession for VFA/EDCA facilities.

In a blow to Biden’s summit, Pakistan, the second largest South Asian country, declined the invitation.

While China, the world’s most effective democracy registering a 93 percent satisfaction of its people in 13 years of surveys of Harvard University, issued a ‘White Paper’ demonstrating its “democracy that works” versus the U.S. style of democracy that earns only 65.5 percent approval from America’s citizens.

Russia, of course, is also not invited despite regular elections. Together with China, issued a joint statement denouncing the Cold War mentality behind Biden’s democracy summit. The statement said the affair would only create new “dividing lines” – which indeed is always the malicious intention of US actions.

But a reality check shows US democracy failing its own people so how can it teach the world democracy?

Biden’s Olympic boycott was quickly junked by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 2, 2021 when 173 countries adopted by consensus and co-sponsoring the resolution entitled “Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal” calling for the observance of the Olympic Truce for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Beijing 2022.”

The most telling blow to the US campaign to project itself as a conscience for Olympic moral leadership is the reaction of the American athletes and para-athletes that is not being reported by U.S. media.

We had to pick this up from German media DW, “US Olympic committee opposes boycott of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics” (US Olympics and Paralympics Committee) hence Biden could not compel compliance with a full boycott.

Who wants or even invited the US diplomats any way. Biden is now in a lonely group of five other countries in his boycott comprising the other ‘Five Eyes’ countries plus Lithuania, a tiny US-Taiwan puppet.

US allies Israel, France (which is seeking a common EU stance to reject the boycott) and the rest of the World will be at the Beijing Olympics come February 4, 2022.

South Korea is in a quandary as President Moon Jae-in had hoped, according to Mitch Shin writing in the Diplomat, to recreate the magic of PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018 when North and South Korea participated. For next year, Moon plans to reactivate the Korean peace process by declaring a formal end to the 1950-53 Korean War during the Games but has to consider Washington’s opposition. See how the US frustrates global peace?

I just read in Olympic.com that Filipino speed skater Julian Macaraeg is hoping to make it the 2022 Beijing Winer Olympics using crowdfunding, let me announce here that we’re ready to help him in his fund campaign.

The Philippines should be in the Beijing Olympics, diplomats and athletes, even if only one. We must end this US tyranny over the globe once-and-for-all.
